Desktop Salesforce Maps is still available. Reps now open Maps through the Maps Mobile tab inside the Salesforce mobile app, which needs a live internet connection and no longer records where reps are.

If your field team relied on a dedicated app, offline access or live location on the manager’s map, that layer is gone. Copies already installed on phones no longer get security updates, bug fixes or support, and Salesforce does not guarantee they keep working. Field users are directed to the Maps Mobile tab in the main Salesforce mobile app, which an admin has to add to the mobile navigation.

Maps Live Tracking Mobile. Salesforce stopped honoring these subscriptions after August 31, 2026. In Salesforce’s own words, reps “can no longer generate new geolocation data”. This feature does not move into the Salesforce mobile app: it simply ends.

What did not change. Desktop Salesforce Maps, with its routes, schedule, shape layers and auto-assignment, keeps working as before. Salesforce Maps as a product is not discontinued.

What does the Maps Mobile tab still do, and what is missing?

The Maps Mobile tab keeps the basics: reps can see marker layers and run routes from inside the Salesforce app. The gaps show up as soon as a rep leaves good coverage or a manager wants to know where the team is.

No offline mode. Salesforce’s documentation for the Maps Mobile tab states it doesn’t support offline mode and requires an internet connection. Reps in rural territories, large facilities or underground parking lose the map at the stop where they need it.

No live location. With Live Tracking Mobile gone, managers can’t watch the team on the map, verify visits against actual movement or reassign a nearby rep when a customer calls.

Check-in stays basic. Check In can require reps to be within a set distance of the record and logs a Salesforce activity. Notes go into a custom disposition; photo, e-signature or barcode capture inside the check-in is not documented.

What does Salesforce suggest instead?

Salesforce’s retirement notice points customers to three options: Mileage Administration, the Check In feature, and TripLog, a third-party app, for real-time visibility into employee locations.

Each covers one piece. Mileage Administration handles reimbursement, Check In logs a visit, and TripLog adds location tracking as a separate app. None of them restores an offline field app with routes, records and tracking in one place. That is the gap most teams are now trying to fill.

What if you need a full field app on Salesforce data?

For some teams the Maps Mobile tab is enough. Teams that need offline access, live tracking and proof-of-visit check-ins in one app usually add a dedicated field tool that reads and writes Salesforce data directly.

Mapsly is one of those tools. It connects to Salesforce through a native two-way sync and adds an iOS and Android app with offline maps and records, live team tracking, automatic check-ins with photos and signatures, and route optimization for the whole team. For the details side by side, see the Mapsly vs Salesforce Maps comparison, or schedule a quick session to see it on your data.

Proof from a team that compared both paths. Zeitview first explored a solution built on Salesforce, then chose Mapsly. Its operations manager reports saving over $500,000 against that option. Read the Zeitview case study.

Frequently asked questions

Is Salesforce Maps discontinued? No. Salesforce retired the standalone Salesforce Maps mobile app and Maps Live Tracking Mobile on August 31, 2026. Desktop Salesforce Maps is still available, and mobile access moved to the Maps Mobile tab in the Salesforce mobile app.

Does the Salesforce Maps Mobile tab work offline? No. Salesforce’s documentation says the Maps Mobile tab doesn’t support offline mode and requires an internet connection.

Can I still track field reps’ location in Salesforce Maps? Not with Live Tracking Mobile. After August 31, 2026, reps can no longer generate new geolocation data. Salesforce suggests Mileage Administration, Check In or the third-party app TripLog.

Will the app keep working on phones where it is already installed? Salesforce no longer provides updates, bug fixes or support for installed copies and does not guarantee they keep working.

What can replace the Salesforce Maps mobile app? Salesforce points to the Maps Mobile tab in the Salesforce app, plus Check In, Mileage Administration and the third-party app TripLog. Teams that need an offline field app with tracking and check-ins in one place use a dedicated field platform synced with Salesforce, such as Mapsly.

{
  "@context": "https://schema.org",
  "@type": "FAQPage",
  "mainEntity": [
    {
      "@type": "Question",
      "name": "Is Salesforce Maps discontinued?",
      "acceptedAnswer": {
        "@type": "Answer",
        "text": "No. Salesforce retired the standalone Salesforce Maps mobile app and Maps Live Tracking Mobile on August 31, 2026.
